Menopause and bone health

Menopause is a time when women are at increased risk of bone loss and osteoporosis, which can increase the risk of fractures. Exercise can play an important role in maintaining bone health during menopause.

Weight-bearing exercises, such as strength training, can help stimulate bone growth and maintain bone density. Resistance exercises, using weights, machines or resistance band exercises, can help increase muscle mass, which in turn can help protect the bones and reduce the risk of fractures.

Women who have had a fracture or who are at high risk of fracture may benefit from working with a healthcare provider or exercise specialist to develop an individualized exercise program that takes into account their specific needs and medical history.

Overall, regular exercise is an important part of maintaining bone health during menopause and can help reduce the risk of fractures and other bone-related issues. Strength training is also invigorating, empowering and allows you to continue doing the things you love and age with vitality.
